In perfumery, 99% ethanol typically makes up 70–95% of the formulation, depending on the fragrance concentration. Body mists generally contain 60–85% ethanol for a lighter, more refreshing scent experience, while linen and fabric mists commonly use 70–90% ethanol to promote quick drying and even fragrance distribution on fabrics. The exact percentage may vary based on the formulation, fragrance load, and intended product performance.

Sample Formulations

• 99% Ethanol: 80 mL (80%)

• Fragrance Oil: 18 mL (18%)

• Distilled Water: 2 mL (2%)

Method: Combine the fragrance oil with the ethanol and stir until completely dissolved. Slowly add the distilled water while mixing gently. Allow the perfume to mature (macerate) in a cool, dark place for 2–4 weeks before filtering, if necessary, and bottling.

Body Mist – 100 mL

• 99% Ethanol: 70 mL (70%)

• Distilled Water: 25 mL (25%)

• Fragrance Oil: 5 mL (5%)

Method: Blend the fragrance oil into the ethanol until the mixture is clear. Gradually add the distilled water while stirring continuously. Bottle in a fine mist spray container and shake gently before first use if required.

Linen Mist – 100 mL

• 99% Ethanol: 75 mL (75%)

• Distilled Water: 23 mL (23%)

• Fragrance Oil: 2 mL (2%)

Method: Mix the fragrance oil with the ethanol until fully combined, then slowly add the distilled water. Pour into a spray bottle and apply lightly to linens, curtains, upholstery, or fabrics from a suitable distance. Always test on a small, inconspicuous area before widespread use.
