What is SCS?

Sodium Coco-Sulfate (SCS) is a surfactant derived from coconut oil, similar to Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS) but generally considered milder due to its longer fatty acid chain composition. It’s commonly available in noodle form—small, easy-to-handle solid strips or flakes ideal for soap and personal care product manufacturing.

SCS noodles are popular in solid cleansing products like bar soaps and shampoo bars because they provide excellent foaming and cleansing power while being somewhat gentler than pure SLS.

• Melt SCS noodles carefully at moderate temperatures (around 60-70°C) to avoid degradation.

• Combine with mild surfactants (like Cocamidopropyl Betaine) for a gentler formula.

• When formulating shampoo bars, SCS noodles help achieve good slip and foam but should be balanced for scalp comfort.

Handling & Storage:

• Store in a cool, dry place away from moisture to prevent clumping or sticking.

• Use gloves and a mask if handling in bulk to avoid dust inhalation.
